In an October 2024 report, S&P Global warned that TSMC’s electricity use could reach nearly one quarter (about 23.7%) of Taiwan’s total power consumption by 2030, up from roughly 8% of total demand and nearly 16% of industrial demand in 2023.
Advanced process nodes are the main driver: power consumption per 12-inch equivalent wafer at the 3nm node jumped from 27.7kW in 2022 to 40.5kW in 2023, and 2nm fabs now ramping up will push regional grid loads even higher.
For wafer fabs, even a millisecond-level voltage sag can scrap entire wafer lots — power reliability and quality directly affect profitability. That is why insulation condition monitoring of high-voltage incoming equipment, power cables, and transformers, from Taipower’s grid down to science-park and fab facilities, is becoming an industry-wide priority.
Wintech Electric’s PD testing technology helps high-tech facilities assess high-voltage insulation condition during annual maintenance and live operation — an extra layer of protection for advanced-node power stability.
